Hogroast & Quiz
Events 2010
Piggin' Starving
The long awaited and much anticipated return of the hogroast.
Following a long day of showing it was great to see the post show event start to take shape, with Shaun Burrows, Alan Cuthbertson and Peter Lamb putting up the gazeboes in blustery conditions whilst Carol Burrows helped with the food preparation. Whilst the fencing at the show was being dismantled, Keith Nathan and Maggie Mulholland kindly allowed us to use their pick-up truck and trailer to transport enough tables and chairs for everybody, although there were some who brought along their own comfortable chairs from the caravan.
People made there way over from the show and started claiming there places, then it happened the pig arrived but Stuart soon went off to get changed and prepare for later. Not long after the van arrived containing the caterers and the huge hog. Queues of hungry people formed and they were not going to go home hungry as there was plenty for everybody, with some having second and even third helpings. Angie was making sure those not driving were getting into the swing of things by dishing out the Champers and a variety of cocktails.
This set the tone for the rest of the evening and was a great precursor to the quiz and those who socialised until the very early hours. Piggin' Clever
Introduction of a new event to the NoEDC Calendar.
This year saw the introduction of a new event as part of the hogroast festivities. It was decided to introduce a quiz with prizes kindly donated by Kelevra Solutions Ltd. The quiz kicked off with the picture round, with many people hanging back to take part even though they had hefty journeys ahead. Following feedback it has been decided to reduce the number of rounds from the original five plus the picture round to three plus the picture round. As this was the first year, although the overall reception of the event was great, it was sad to see those that had to travela fair distance leave part way through the quiz.
Back to the event itself, after the first couple of questions were read out things were a little flat but suddenly everybody realised that it was a competition and that prizes were at stake. The quiz was hosted by Stuart Pearson, unfortunately his request for a glamorous assistant to be provided fell upon deaf ears so Carole stepped in to help him. The quiz was close at both ends of the table all the way through the various rounds, the prizes were £25 for the winning team, £15 for the runner up and finally £10 for third. There were also a number of spot round questions between rounds, with the team closest to the actual answer winning a bottle of wine. The team who came last also won a bottle of wine, however this wasn't announced until after the last round to ensure that everybody played to the best of their ability.
